Monitoring of traffic light signals on the A75 at Springholm: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

FOI reference: FOI/19/00092
Date received: 11 January 2019
Date responded: 30 January 2019

Information requested

I wish to know the number of vehicles that have ran red light signals that are installed on the A75 at Springholm since they were installed.

Response

The total number of vehicles that have ran red light signals during the period 2 April 2018 to 30 December 2018 on the A75 at Springholm is 77,826. This figure is 1.6% of the total traffic volume in both directions during this period.

Monitoring of vehicles running red light signals across all four monitoring points commenced in April 2018. It should be noted that the traffic signals installed in Springholm are intended as a speed management measure. These Reverse Discrimination signals are a trial of a new technology. The sole purpose of the scheme is to manage vehicle speeds by seeking to encourage amendments to driver behaviour.  As this is a pilot the intention is to monitor its effectiveness for a period before taking any next steps.
