Contractors for A9 road: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.

Information requested

Please may i request an up to date list of contractors, subcontractors and suppliers that have or will be involved with the upgrade a 177km stretch of the A9 between the cities of Perth and Inverness to full dual carriageway standard.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Transport Scotland does not have some of the information you have requested. We do not hold this information as not all of the sections of the A9 Dualling scheme are in construction or have been put out for tender. Under the terms of the exception at regulation 10(4)(a) of the EIRs (information not held), Transport Scotland is not required to provide information which it does not have.

This exemption is subject to the ‘public interest test’. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption. While we recognise there may be some public interest in who will be involved in construction on the A9 Dualling project, clearly we cannot provide information which we do not hold.

However, I can confirm that the principal consultants involved with the overall design of the A9 Dualling are:

Jacobs UK Limited
CH2MHill Fairhurst Joint Venture
Atkins Mouchel Joint Venture

In addition for the Birnam to Tay Crossing section where a co-creative approach has been undertaken the following additional consultants are involved with the design process:

Planning Aid for Scotland
Leighton Consulting Limited
Cairngorms National Park Authority
The Children’s Parliament

Further consultation work for the Dualling is also being undertaken by:

Network Rail UK Limited
AECOM Limited

For geotechnical and ground investigation work the following contractors have been used:

BAM Ritchies
Soil Engineering Geoservices Limited
Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical Limited

For land title searching, land acquisition and management and claim evaluation the following companies and organisations are currently being used:

Savills LLP
Morton Fraser LLP
Valuation Office Agency

The BIG Partnership Limited
TMP Worldwide Limited

For the Academy9 educational programme:
