Information requested

An explanation of the use of the term "gender" in Criminal Proceedings Scotland 2017-18.

Response

Where possible, we aim to show statistics split by male/female. The statistics reflect the information provided and available to the relevant criminal justice agencies. The general practice is that ndividuals identify themselves as male or female. Agencies do not generally require individuals to provide information about their biological characteristics or whether or not they have a full Gender Recognition Certificate.
