Planned Bills for Justice and Veterans portfolio: FOI release

Information requested

22 Bills that are planned for the Justice and Veterans portfolio, as publicly stated by the Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Veterans in Parliament on 7 December 2021.

Response

Some of the information you have requested is available from the Programme for Government 2021- 22. Those Bills are:
1. Miners’ Strike Pardon Bill;
2. Fireworks Bill;
3. Bail and release; and,
4. Moveable transactions.

In addition, that document also states that the Scottish Government are looking at implementing a programme of Scottish Law Commission recommendations in the following areas:
1. Trust law;
2. Judicial Factors;
3. Contract law;
4. Title Conditions;
5. Cohabitation; and,
6. Damages for personal injury.

Other policy areas from which the remaining Bills may be drawn are as follows:
1. Courts, tribunals and judiciary;
2. Covert Human Intelligence Sources;
3. Criminal justice reform: Sexual offences/ not proven/ victims commissioner;
4. Dangerous dogs;
5. Justice reform (Summary and community justice).
6. Legal services regulation;
7. Legal aid reform;
8. Police complaints;
9. Prostitution; and,
10. Misogyny.

The Scottish Government announces its legislative programme on an annual basis in the autumn within its wider Programme for Government. Decisions on whether or not to progress legislative proposals from the justice portfolio will be taken as part of that Cabinet-led process.
