Golden Jubilee Hospital: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

I wanted to know by using the golden jubilee hospital for procedures is this a form of using a private company to get patients seen quicker than at local hospitals? Does this come at a higher cost?

Response

NHS Golden Jubilee is not form of using a private company. NHS Golden Jubilee is Scotland’s only national NHS Board, with its own National Hospital, Research Institute, Innovation Centre and Conference Hotel.

The Board works in collaboration with public sector, academia and industry partners to deliver planned care. NHS Golden Jubilee delivers heart and lung services, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and diagnostic imaging, and carries out a range of planned procedures to assist territorial NHS Board in reducing patient waiting times - thus supporting patients to receive quicker access to care.

Throughout the pandemic, NHS Golden Jubilee has collaborated with many NHS Boards to support the delivery of urgent cancer surgery and other priority surgeries.

As with other NHS Boards, NHS Golden Jubilee funding allocations are agreed and authorised by the Scottish Government based on activity levels and workforce requirements.
