Glow resources for Acceptable Use Policy: FOI release

Information requested

I would like to know if Glow provide guidance for schools to share with pupils when they are signing the school's Acceptable Use Policy for access to Glow. If so i would like to request copies of these.

Response

Each local authority is responsible for their local Acceptable Use Policy and Education Scotland does not issue any guidance to schools for sharing with pupils.

Each organisation wishing to use Glow (and for schools this would be the local authority) has to sign a legally binding agreement with Education Scotland. The sections in that pertaining to acceptable use are shown below (the Customer is the local authority in this context).

"6.1.6 Acceptable Use

6.1.6.1 The Service Provider will administer the Glow Service in accordance with the Glow Service Community Rules.

6.1.6.2 The Customer retains the responsibility for ensuring the implementation of and adherence to the Glow Service Community Rules, and any other guidance provided, by all of the Customer’s users of the Glow Service.

6.1.6.3 The Customer shall use all reasonable endeavours to ensure the use of the Glow Service within their area of responsibility is not of a nature to cause harm or distress to anyone, breach local policies in place or otherwise breach the law. The Customer shall be responsible for maintaining an adequate system of supervision, including control, operation and moderation, of users of the Glow Service (including those the Customer has given access to).”

The local authority retains the responsibility for ensuring the implementation of and adherence to the Glow Service Community Rules (which we do provide and expect all Glow users to follow) and any other guidance provided, by them locally.
