Breakdown of crow control traps and snares: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.

Information requested

My original request dated 29th March 2022 not only asked for the number of traps, but for a breakdown of the type of traps used as crow traps and snares are both eligible for funding.

“In addition, please could the Scottish Government provide a breakdown of the number of crow control traps and the number of traps and or snares that have been paid for”

It is unclear in the FOI if Predator Control refers to only crow traps, only snares or both crow traps and snares. I would be grateful if crow traps and snares can be listed as separate items by cost and number of units.

Response

The data regarding the number of traps is for Crow Control only, as payment is provided on a per trap basis. This data is not available for Mammal and Crow Control as payment is given on a per hectare basis. Apologies for not making this clear in my previous response.

I can, however, split the costs involved in Predator Control between Crow Control only and Mammal and Crow Control, please see the following table:

AECS Options / Capital Items £ / Quantity 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021
Predator Control (crow control) £ 11,942 16,874 23,624 34,527 34,786 32,190
Predator Control (mammal and crow control) £ 58,685 128,836 177,685 203,144 209,751 202,038
