Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Information requested
You asked who would hold overall responsibility for appointments, impact on community standards and Equality Legislation matters regarding 75 Festival Funds.
You also asked which events received most funding from Creative Scotland in Festival 75 and which received least funding, and what overall funding was provided by Scottish Government for Festival 75.
Response
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The Scottish Government does not hold responsibility for appointments, impact on community standards and Equality Legislation matters regarding the funding for the festivals celebrating their 75th anniversaries this year. I can advise that the individual festivals are responsible for the details of their own organisation and management, and that the responsibility around impact on community standards would be a matter for the local authority, in the case of the Festivals this would be Edinburgh City Council.
However, with reference to the part of your question about the responsibility around Equality Legislation matters regarding the festivals celebrating their 75th anniversaries, please note that the EXPO and Platform for Creative Excellence (PlaCE) Programme funds are managed by Creative Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. As such, you may wish to contact Creative Scotland regarding this information.
In response to the part of your question regarding funding, please see the table below which shows the breakdown of the Scottish Government’s funding for each of the three festivals celebrating their 75th anniversaries this year. The funding for the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF), Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) was awarded through the EXPO fund, PlaCE Programme, and PlaCE Resilience funds which, as noted above, are managed by Creative Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.
EXPO fund | PlaCE Programme | PlaCE Resilience Funding |
Total | |
EIF | £110,000 | £400,000 | £250,000 | £760,000 |
Fringe | £550,000 | £166,666 | £1,580,000 | £2,296,666 |
EIFF | £110,000 | £124,549 | £270,000 | £504,549 |
Total | £770,000 | £691,215 | £2,100,000 | £3,561,215 |
