Statistics on school exclusions: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Statistical information, by year, school level and school of all school exclusion that took place within the last 5 years.

Response

Information on school exclusion is collected by the Scottish Government on an biennial basis. In the past five years school exclusion data has been collected for the 2018/19 school year and the 2020/21 school year. The information attached shows cases of exclusion. Individual pupils may be the subject of more than one case of exclusion in each school year. Schools with zero exclusions in the year are not shown. The count of cases of exclusion has been suppressed (indicated by ā€˜cā€™) where there were fewer than five cases of exclusion, or (rarely) where a count of fewer than five could be calculated from other readily available information. This has been done to protect against the disclosure of personal information in accordance with section 38 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
