Scottish Football Clubs - Covid-related loans: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Could you please provide details of which Scottish Football clubs that have not commenced repayments of their Covid Loan scheduled for starting in September 2022 ?

Could you also provide details of clubs which are up to date with their scheduled repayments? .

Response

As noted in the original loan agreements, the Scottish Government has the right to renegotiate the terms of its loan agreements with Football clubs, including changes to the length of the repayment period and the timing or amounts of repayments.

I can confirm that the loan agreements for three clubs have been amended to switch from twelve monthly repayments to a single larger annual repayment in September. Two of the clubs whose repayment schedules have been changed in this way had not yet made any initial repayments at the time of the change being finalised, and have therefore not yet commenced repayments on their Covid-related loans. These two clubs are: St Mirren Football Club and Hamilton Academical Football Club.

With regard to compliance with repayment schedules, I can confirm that all of the clubs which received Scottish Government Covid-related loans are in compliance with their initial repayment schedule or, where applicable, with their amended repayments schedules as discussed above.
