Victim Notification Scheme (VNS) - cross border transfer: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

How many victims have not been notified within a week of a person who has had a cross boarder transfer over the last 5 years?.

Response

Over the last five years, 3 registered victims were not notified within a week of a cross border transfer taking place.

Please note that within the legislation that governs the Victim Notification Scheme (VNS) there is no fixed timescale for the VNS Administrative Team being notified of a cross border transfer, and for the VNS Administrative Team notifying a victim of a cross border transfer. However, in both scenarios the aim is for notification to take place as soon as possible after the offender has been transferred.

The above information relates to the Victim Notification Scheme, administered by the Scottish Government, for victims of mentally disordered offenders made subject to a compulsion order and restriction order (CORO). The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) also administers a separate victim notification scheme. Should you wish to enquire about this scheme, you can contact them directly by: Email: SPSVictimNotificationScheme@prisons.gov.scot and Telephone: 0131 330 3664
