Education Scotland agency staff costs for financial year 2022-2023: FOI release

Information requested

The following information on agency staff:

1. Please advise the total spend on recruitment agencies in the 2022-2023 financial year? Please breakdown both spend on the agency that finds candidates for job vacancies and agencies that supply temporary staff ?
2. Please advise what the temporary agency spend for admin, call centre, data processing and clerical roles in the 2022-2023 financial year?
3. Please advise what the temporary agency spend for roles such as warehouse, catering and cleaners in the 2022-2023 financial year?
4. Please advise what the permanent agency spend has been in the 2022-2023 financial year?

Question 1

In financial year 2022-23, £1,542,318 was paid to agencies who supply temporary staff. This includes staff salaries, VAT and agencies commissions. Education Scotland uses the Scottish Government procurement framework for temporary and interim staff services. £44,708 was paid to recruitment agencies to assist with the recruitment of permanent staff. This covers both advertising and assessment services.

Question 2

Education Scotland uses the Scottish Government temporary staff framework for administrative staff. The total amount spent on agency staff during 2022-23 was £1,542,318. As noted in Question one, this includes staff salaries, VAT and agencies commissions.

Question 3

In financial year 2022-23, no money was spent on temporary agency roles such as warehouse, catering and cleaners.

Question 4

In financial year 2022-23, the spend on recruitment agencies for recruitment of permanent staff was £44,708. As noted above this covered advertising and assessment services.
