Scottish Government ownership of Prestwick Airport: FOI release

I am looking to establish the specific details of the Scottish Government acquisition of Prestwick Airport in 2013 in relation to what exactly the Scottish Government now owns as regards the airfield as a whole. Is it just the terminal and associated ramp areas of the whole airfield? Also in relation to existing historical lease deals – are these still in place and what are they?'

The answer to your question is:

On 22 November 2013, the Scottish Government completed its acquisition of Prestwick Aviation Holdings Limited and associated companies. The Scottish Ministers, acting through a new company, TS Prestwick Holdco Limited (registration no SC462050), acquired the share capital of Prestwick Aviation Holdings Limited, who in turn own the share capital of Glasgow Prestwick Airport Ltd and Prestwick Airport Ltd.

The Scottish Government therefore acquired a 100% shareholding in Prestwick Aviation Holdings Limited, however no transfer of title over land or property took place as part of this transaction.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. TS Prestwick Holdco Limited and its subsidiaries operate on a commercial basis independent from The Scottish Government, therefore details of lease arrangements are a commercial matter between Glasgow Prestwick Airport and its tenants.
