Agricultural statistics for East Kilbride: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004

Information requested

Currently held agricultural statistics for East Kilbride, specifically areas of, tillage, rotation grass, permanent grass, rough grazing, rewilding or nature conservation, fish farming or rearing and the monetary value of the agricultural area. In addition, you asked for livestock data for horses, cattle (dairy and beef), sheep, pigs and poultry.

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested. The data we hold identifies the area of individual farms (holdings), in an agricultural parish. Each holding has its own County, Parish, Holding number (CPH), rather than by name or owner.

Therefore, the best fit for your request has been to supply statistics requested using the existing parish boundary, which is parish 544 (East Kilbride), as the closest approximation. I have extracted the requested data (please see tables below), with the exception of the following which we do not hold; acreage under rewilding or nature conservation efforts, acreage used for fish farming or rearing, information on stable accommodation, livery. Further, while we hold acreage information, we do not hold the value of this.

As you noted in your email, the largest challenge is any changes to the agricultural parish boundary of East Kilbride since 1951. Agricultural parishes have changed very little since 1951, however, should you wish an exact comparison of agricultural data, we would be very happy to provide some bespoke analysis for you if you are able to provide a list of the CPHs required. If you do not know the CPH codes for the named farms, we will be unable to provide this analysis.
