A list of the schools that were put forward for Phase 3 of the Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP), including the relevant local authority name and the date of application.

Response

I enclose the information you requested - within the below table.

Consideration of Phase 3 bids has been delayed due to a number of factors, which could not have been anticipated when the original invitation to bid was issued.

For example, there has been significant market volatility affecting a number of current Phase 1 and 2 projects which required further analysis and consideration, including the impact of this on Phase 3.

As a result of this market volatility, adjustment to 20 Phase 1 and 2 projects was agreed and communicated to local authorities over the summer. The impact of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete on a small number of Scottish schools is also an issue which we are taking into consideration.

This has meant that this important decision, which will impose a very significant cost to the public purse for the next 30 years, has been subject to delay to ensure that all relevant factors are fully considered.

However, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills has committed to updating Parliament on Phase 3 by the end of October 2023.
