Policy for purchasing donor eggs: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Can you outline the current Scottish Government Policy regarding use of donor eggs purchased for NHS fertility treatment.

If this policy has changed in the past two years, please can you share the previous policy, and dates of the most recent policy change.

Response

There has been no policy change. The Scottish Government has always been clear that couples who are eligible for NHS fertility treatment should not have to pay for any aspect of their treatment, this includes the purchase of donor eggs. The Scottish Government expects NHS Boards to meet the needs of couples who are eligible for NHS fertility treatment and require donor eggs for their treatment.
