Costs associated with leadership professional learning sessions in September 2023: FOI release

Information on Simon Breakspear’s visit to Scotland:

• The total cost of Mr Breakspear's visit to Scotland.
• A breakdown of the costs of Mr Breakspear's visit to Scotland - NB If Education Scotland is simply paying a flat fee for this visit please confirm this. On the other hand, if separate costs are available then please provide this information. This might take the form, for example, of providing details about travel costs (price and class of tickets), accommodation costs, speaking fees etc.
• Confirmation as to whether or not Education Scotland is covering the full costs of the visit. If this is not the case, please advise who else is meeting the costs of the visit.

Response

Dr Simon Breakspear’s work has been procured to design and deliver three leadership professional learning sessions with Scotland’s school and system leaders on Tuesday 19, Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 September 2023. This recall work forms part of the Excellence in Headship and Connected and Collaborative Systems programmes. The total for the design and delivery of the three whole-day professional learning sessions is £11,800.

Education Scotland paid for Dr Simon Breakspear’s accommodation costs from Sunday 17 to Wednesday 20 September 2023 which was a total of £435.00. No other travel costs were paid for Dr Simon Breakspear.

Outside of his procured work, he also visited schools in Glasgow on Monday 18 September 2023, learning about and supporting them with their teaching sprints work. Education Scotland did not pay for this visit.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Education Scotland does not have the information you have requested on the full cost of Simon Breakspear’s visit to Scotland.
