Ukraine resettlement - Scottish estates offer: FOI release

Information in relation to the March 2022, Scottish Land & Estates (SLE) press release (https://www.scottishlandandestates.co.uk/news/scotlands-estates-offer-homes-and-jobs-those-fleeingukraine),around 40 Scottish landed estates made an offer, in a letter to the Scottish Government coordinated by SLE, to offer accommodation and employment opportunities to Ukrainian refugees.You asked are you able to provide details of what followed this letter? Was the offer taken up, which estates accommodated or employed Ukrainian refugees, how many refugees were resettled by these estates, and so on?

Please find the information relevant to your request in the accompanying pdf document. The Scottish Government explored many options but ultimately this option of accommodation and employment was not pursued. Information regarding what accommodation was initially offered is also provided in Annex B of the pdf document.

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to a small amount of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, including names/contact details of individuals, and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
