1. Which piece of scientific research demonstrates that the H5N1 virus actually exists in nature?
2. Which piece of scientific research demonstrates that the H5N1 virus is present in Scotland?
3. Which piece of scientific research demonstrates that the H5N1 virus is the sole causative agent of Avian Influenza?
4. Which piece of scientific research demonstrates that Avian Influenza can be transmitted between birds?
5. How many domestic fowl have died from Avian Influenza in Scotland since January 1st 2023, not including thoseslaughtered on suspicion of carrying the virus?
6. How many domestic fowl have been slaughtered in Scotland on suspicion of carrying the virus since January 1st 2023?

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. Therefore we are refusing your request under the exception at regulation 10(4)(a) of the EIRs.

Question 6
We have had one case of “Slaughter on Suspicion” (where the Chief Veterinary Officer has authorised slaughter prior to receiving test results confirming the presence of disease on the premises) since 1 January 2023 and this was 2014 pheasants.
For the total numbers relating to numbers slaughtered in total as part of disease control, you may wish to contact Animal and Plant Health Agency at enquiries@apha.gov.uk who may be able to help you.
