Information requested
The following data for the number of Scottish male firefighters: whole-time and retained (full-time and duty) for the age brackets and each year between 2000-2020:
Table 1: Total number of pensioners (male whole-time and retained firefighters) who are still active.
Table 2: Total number of pensioners (male whole-time and retained firefighters) who are paid pensions.
Table 3: Total number of pensioners (male whole-time and retained firefighters) who are in deferred status (i.e. those who have opted out, deferred, or transferred).
Table 4: Total number of pensioners (male whole-time and retained firefighters) who died.
Response
I enclose a copy of all the information you requested in the attached spreadsheet. We have taken 'pensioners' in your query to mean 'members of pension schemes'. For your question on pensioners' deaths, therefore, I have provided data both on members of firefighters' pension schemes who died and members of firefighters' pension schemes receiving pensions who died (Table 5).
Please note, the figures are for financial years (1 April to 30 March) as you requested in your clarification received on 31 October.
