The Scottish Government is in the process of replacing and upgrading security equipment across its estate as part of a multi-year improvement programme. All existing CCTV equipment, including Hikvision and other companies’ products, is being replaced with a new integrated system to improve and future-proof the security of the Scottish Government estate. In response to your specific questions:
Hikvision |
Response |
Whether the Scottish Government operates any a) Hikvision equipment and b) Hikvision CCTV cameras on its properties. |
a) Yes. b) Yes. |
How many CCTV cameras manufactured by Hikvision are operated on Scottish Government properties. |
There are sixty cameras manufactured by Hikvision still in use. These are contained in six core Scottish Government properties. One site is landlord controlled (Atlantic Quay 4, Glasgow – 48 Cameras). The cameras used there only view communal areas such as stairwells, main entrances and common circulation space. The other twelve cameras used in Scottish Government controlled sites are in the process of being replaced. This work will be undertaken in the next 8 weeks. |
If the Scottish Government is in the process of stripping Hikvision cameras out of Scottish Government properties |
Yes, all works to remove Hikvision equipment in Scottish Government Core Properties which are controlled by the Scottish Government will be completed by January 2024. |
How much the Scottish Government has spent on a) Hikvision equipment and b) Hikvision CCTV cameras, for every financial year from 2012/13 to 2022/23 |
The Scottish Government does not hold this level of historic financial information. Any Hikvision equipment used forms part of a larger security system where assets are valued at system level rather than individual component level. It is therefore not possible to identify the specific value of a Hikvision component. |
