1. How many private residential landlords there were registered on the landlord registration database each year from 2013 to the present.

2. How many private residential properties there were registered on the landlord registration database for each year from 2013 to the present.

3. How the properties were distributed by landlord. That is, numbers of landlords with 1 property, numbers with 2 properties, and so on.

4. Breakdowns of this information by local authority.

Response

Further to my letter of 8 November 2023, I have now completed my review of our response to your request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) asking us to review a recent response on landlord registration levels to see if there were errors in the data provided.

You had initially asked for details of private residential landlords and properties registered each year since 2013, distributed by landlord and broken down by local authority.

I have concluded that there were errors in the data provided to you for the years 2016 and 2017. I apologise for this error and would like to thank you for bringing it to our attention.

The reason for the error is due to the fact that the data gathered prior to 2018 exists in a snapshot taken from a previous landlord registration system. The information was stored in such a way that data was ordered differently by local authority for 2016 and 2017 than for other years.

I now enclose a copy of the updated tables for 2016 and 2017. I hope this gives you a complete set of data.
