Cost of Interim Care home placements: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

To confirm whether the fees paid for interim care home placements funded by the Scottish Government https://www.gov.scot/publications/interim-care-placements-uptake/ were the same as the rates specified in the National Care Home Contract (less any "client" contribution where applicable). If not, what fees were paid for a) nursing care and b) residential care?

Response

Please accept apologies for the delay in responding to your email dated 17 October 2023.

On 10 January 2023, the Scottish Government made available up to an additional £8 million for Local Authorities and Health and Social Care Partnerships for reimbursement of eligible spend on interim placement care home beds. The provision of this extra funding was primarily to support timely discharge from hospital and, where appropriate, safely allow care assessments to take place and support to be put in place after discharge from hospital.

As detailed in the Interim Beds for Winter Pressures guidance, issued on 2 March 2023, the funding that was made available to Local Authorities and Health and Social Care Partnerships was to cover up to an additional 25% above the National Care Home Contract rate to support the procurement of interim beds from the period 10 January 2023 to 31 March 2023 (inclusive), with an extended period up to a maximum of 6 weeks into financial year 2023/24.
