Cost of "Building a New Scotland" Project: FOI release

Information requested

I would like to submit an FOI request with regards to the series of 9 papers published by the Scottish Government titled "Building a New Scotland". Specifically, I would like to know the following:

1. How much did the project (e.g. commission, research and publication of the 9 papers) cost in total, and how long did it take?

2. What was the source of funding for this project?

1. Details of the publication costs for all papers in the Building a New Scotland series to date are enclosed in the Annex of this letter. Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the websites listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance, the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested about costs of commission or research work on the Building a New Scotland series, or the time taken for this work. This is because this work was taken forward by civil servants as part of their normal duties supporting the Scottish Government and in line with usual practice, details of individual tasks carried out by civil servants, including the number of hours spent on them, are not routinely recorded as there is no business need to do this. This is a formal notice under Section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested.

2. In line with usual practice, any work conducted by the Scottish Government is funded by the Scottish Government.
