Evidence to support Independent Scotland claim: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

In reference to a media broadcast by Humza Yousaf in reference to Resolution Foundation report issued 4th December 2023, titled "Britain needs a new economic strategy to end its stagnation and close its £8,300 living standards gap with its peers".

Daily Mail URL on MSM for reference https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/humza-yousaf-claims-independence-will-make-households-10-200-better-off-but-it-won-t-happen-any-time-soon/ar-AA1mZJ6Q?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531&cvid=2226264555c7415ab9d2e638cf7cb460&ei=45

Could you please provide a copy of all the economic, social report calculations and any additional documents that support how the First Minister arrived at the statement that households could be better of by £10,200 in an independent Scotland compared to the generic Resolution Foundation report forecast of £8,300 for UK households.

Could you also breakdown which households this would relate to, and what overall % of households that would equate to. Assume this would be included in the Scottish Government research report on this statement already.

Response

I have enclosed a copy of the information you have requested in the annexes of this letter.

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) (Personal Information) of FOISA applies to some of the information requested. This is because it is personal data of a third party and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the 'public interest test', so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
