Scottish Government analysis and publication of National Standardised Assessments for Scotland (NSA): FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked for information on the Scottish Governments publication strategy for the annual SNSA/NSA assessment data and whether the data will be compared to the Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence levels (ACEL) data.

Response

Summary data will be published at national, anonymised level through the pending “National Standardised Assessments for Scotland - National Report (2022-23)”. This is due to be published in the coming months, as covered in your related request, reference 202400396111.

Data from the National Standardised Assessments for Scotland (NSA) is not compared to Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence (ACEL) data at national level, as NSA data does not assess the achievement of a level, but provides diagnostic information around aspects of literacy and numeracy. The Scottish Government only accesses national NSA data for technical testing purposes and to quality assure the National Reports produced by our supplier. Local authorities are the owners of NSA data.
