National report on pupil attainment levels - Curriculum for Excellence: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked for confirmation as to whether the Scottish Government receive anonymised copies of SNSA and NSA data from the 32 Scottish Councils so that a National report can be produced on pupil attainment levels within the Curriculum for Excellence. Further, you asked if the Scottish Government compare or analyse the national SNSA/NSA data against the Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence (ACEL) reports.

Response

As data processor for the National Standardised Assessments for Scotland (NSA), the Scottish Government are able to access live anonymised NSA data at any given point, for technical testing and platform testing purposes.

The National Report you have referred to is produced by our assessment platform supplier, and quality assured by the Scottish Government. The figures and charts within this report, and underlying data, are produced by our supplier.

The Scottish Government does not compare or analyse NSA data against ACEL data, as this is not the purpose of the NSAs. The National Standardised Assessments for Scotland have been designed to provide diagnostic information to teachers on children’s progress in aspects of literacy and numeracy. For further information, please see our purpose and use document at National standardised assessments in Scotland: purpose and use - gov.scot (www.gov.scot).
