Ferries built by Ferguson Marine for Caledonian MacBrayne: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004

Information requested

My FOI request concerns the two ferries currently being built by Ferguson Marine for Caledonian MacBrayne.

I would like to know when both ferries will be ready to be released for service and how much over budget this now is.

Response

On Monday 26th February, the then Chief Executive Officer of Ferguson Marine (Port Glasgow), Mr David Tydeman, wrote to the Scottish Government's Net Zero, Economy and Transport Committee to provide an update on the two vessels. He stated that the total cost to complete the vessels since the point of public ownership was up to £149.1 million for 801 Glen Sannox and no more than £150 m for 802 Glen Rosa. At the point that Ferguson Marine was taken into public ownership, the forecast future cost for both vessels combined was between £100.1 – 114.3m.

In the same letter, the then Chief Executive stated that the handover dates from FMPG would be 31 May 2024 for 801 and no later than end September 2025 for 802. The deployment of vessels into service after handover is a matter for Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac).
