Response
The below listed amounts were made available to NHS Boards under the ‘Maternity and Neonatal Services’ budget line to support redesign and improvement of maternity and neonatal services over the specified financial years. The ‘Maternity and Neonatal Services’ budget line sits within the level 3 ‘Early Years’ budget line within the Health and Social Care portfolio.

Please note,
- The Scottish Government provides baseline funding to NHS Boards, which territorial NHS Boards use to best meet the healthcare needs of their resident population. This funding is not ringfenced for maternity and neonatal services and therefore it is not possible for the Scottish Government to provide a breakdown of the use of baseline funding by NHS Boards at the individual service level.
- The above listed funds also do not include funds made available to NHS Boards under a different designation than ‘Maternity and Neonatal Services’ but which may have been, in some way, used in connection with perinatal (maternity and neonatal) services. It is not possible for the Scottish Government to identify all such funds and to assess what percentage of such funds in each scenario was spent on perinatal services by the recipient board.
- The table above provides the funds made available to NHS Boards in relation to delivery of maternity and neonatal services. These figures therefore do not include payments made to entities other than NHS Boards for, for example, services directed at improving maternity and neonatal care in Scotland.
