Scottish Government work from home policy: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Any correspondence issued to civil servants about returning to the office or changes to work-from-home policies sent since the start of 2024.

Response

I enclose a copy of the information you requested which was published on Saltire, the Scottish Government intranet, on 24 February 2024 alongside updated hybrid working guidance on terms and conditions. This is the only communication issued in 2024 to date by the Scottish Government on our hybrid working policy and guidance.

However it is worth noting that this guidance is primarily aimed at civil servants working in core Scottish Government Directorates. For Agencies and Non-Ministerial Offices of the Scottish Government (who are listed as separate Public Authorities on the Scottish Information Commissioner’s website), decisions and communications around hybrid working and office attendance are ultimately a matter for individual Chief Executives who may have issued their own communications to their employees in the requested timeframe which we are not sighted on nor recipients of. As a number of those bodies employ civil servants, you may also wish to consider asking those Public Authorities for any correspondence that they have issued to their employees “about returning to the office or changes to work from home policies”.
