Faulty electric vehicle charger statistics: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

The number of times electric vehicle chargers belonging to the Scottish Government/Charge Place Scotland have been broken since 2022 to the present date, broken down by year, in each local authority.

Response

I am able to supply some of the information requested

Please find attached a list of all ‘fault tickets’ logged in the ChargePlace Scotland fault management database between 01/01/2022 to 17/05/2024. While our aim is to provide all of the information you have requested whenever possible, the list of ‘ fault tickets’ we have provided does not denote local authority area as the fault management database does not record this information. However, the unique charge point reference numbers in the attached list can be cross-referenced with the publicly available asset list available on the CPS website which does show each charge point’s local authority location.

All individual reports of a ‘fault’ are recorded as ‘tickets’ which means that multiple tickets may relate to one single occurrence of a fault. It is also important to note that not all ‘fault tickets’ necessarily relate to a ‘broken’ charge point that is inoperable. For example, some automatically generated fault tickets are due to connectivity issues between the charge point and the CPS back-office and in those cases the charge point will often continue to function and provide a charge as normal. Connectivity issues are usually transient in nature and are automatically rectified without the need for any intervention by CPS. Please see an explanation to what constitutes a ‘fault ticket’ on the CPS Website - Tickets Raised by ChargePlace Scotland. Charge Place Scotland fault ticket information from October 2022 onwards can also be found on the Charge Place Scotland website at the same hyperlink.
