Electric vehicle charge points installed by the Scottish Government/Charge Place Scotland: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

The number of electric vehicle charge points installed by the Scottish Government/Charge Place Scotland in each local authority since 2022 to the present date, broken down by year.

Response

Please note you requested information on electric vehicle (EV) charge points installed by the Scottish Government/ChargePlace Scotland (CPS), however neither the Scottish Government nor CPS install public EV charge points.

On behalf of Scottish Ministers, Transport Scotland have provided grant funding for the installation of EV charge points directly to Local Authorities and to other organisations via the Energy Saving Trust. The infrastructure is then owned and maintained by the respective charge point owners (public, private and third sector organisations) and can be for public use or for private and/or fleet vehicle use only. It is at the charge point owner’s discretion to determine the type and location of this infrastructure.

I am able to supply the information requested.

I have attached the most recent version of a document known as an “Asset Register”. This is a list of charge points commissioned on to the ChargePlace Scotland network from 2022 to date.

  • Column A - is titled “CPID”. This is the unique charge point identification number.
  • Column E - shows the Local Authority (LA) area each charge point is located in and does not indicate ownership by each respective Local Authority.
  • Column F - shows the date the charge point was commissioned onto ChargePlace Scotland, i.e. the date it was added to the network.

You can search and sort the data to see how many charge points are in each area and then relate that to each year. This will give you the information you are looking for.
