Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) within Scottish Government buildings: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004

Information requested

Please provide what work has been undertaken to investigate the levels of RAAC within Scottish Government buildings.

Please provide details of what Scottish Government buildings contain RAAC.

Please provide the estimated costs to rectify the Scottish Government buildings containing RAAC.

Response

Scottish Government carried out surveys on the core Scottish Government Estate in accordance with Institute of Structural Engineer (IStructE) guidance, specifying survey and investigation methodology.  IStructE advised on a risk-based assessment of the condition of RAAC planks.  Appropriate technical services were procured via our relevant contracts to appoint building surveyors and undertake the discovery phase of IStructE investigation.  A specification was also developed to undertake any required intrusive surveys by structural engineers on a smaller set of buildings where discovery alone could not rule out the presence of RAAC.

78 buildings have been surveyed, RAAC has not been found in any buildings on the core Scottish Government estate.

Due to RAAC not being found, there are no costs required to rectify Scottish Government core estate buildings.
