Road closures Near Airports: EIR release

Information requested

1. Any confirmed road closures within 20 miles of the below airports between the months of June and December 2024, including the roads affected and dates the closure will be in place.

2. Any planned closures within 20 miles of the below airports between the months of June and December 2024, including the roads planned to be affected and the proposed dates the closures will be in place (if known).

Airports:

• Glasgow International Airport
• Edinburgh Airport
• Aberdeen International Airport

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

Please see Annex A to this response for a copy of the information requested. For closures we have assumed this to mean either full carriageway closures (full closure in one direction) or full road closures (full carriageway closures in both directions) only.

The attached closures are as a result of planned maintenance works on the trunk road network only. You should be aware that the programmed dates for both confirmed and planned closures can change at short notice for a number of factors, and this is not definitive list. Details of closures to local roads should be requested from the relevant Local Authority.

Police Scotland may also put closures in place following events such as Road Traffic Accidents for safety reasons.
