Response

I enclose a record of some of the information you requested.

1. The total number of private rental properties on the Landlord Register at 31 March 2024 was 346,816.

The Landlord Registration System is an administrative system used to deliver on Scottish Ministers’ obligations to manage the registration of landlords and rental properties. It has not been designed to produce robust statistical figures on the sector.

Local authorities are responsible for the administration and enforcement of landlord registration, and are the data controllers of the information on the landlord registration IT system for landlords in their area. The Scottish Government receives aggregate information extracted from the system at the end of each month, including on the total number of active registrations and the number of properties
that these relate to.
