Information requested

Communication between the Scottish Government and Elon Musk. Please include any communication relating to his businesses Tesla and X (formerly Twitter).

Response

Some of the information you have requested is available on the Scottish Government website. Following disorder in parts of the UK, the First Minister wrote to X, Meta and TikTok on 9 August 2024 to ask what action they are taking to combat the spread of misinformation, and to address racist and hateful material on their platforms. The full text of the First Minister’s letter is available here: Misinformation, racism and hateful material online: letter to social media companies - gov.scot (www.gov.scot).

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website(s) listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

A response to the letter from the First Minister was received from X on 20 August. I enclose a copy of a letter.
