Rail electrification of the Aberdeen to Central Belt Line: FOI release

Information requested

I would like to request updated information in relation to phase 4 (electrification from Dunblane to Aberdeen) of the Further Electrification of the Strategic Rail Network project in Scotland as set out here

1, Will the electrification of the railway between Dunblane and Aberdeen be completed by December 2029 and if not, what date is it expected to be finalised?

2, What work is currently ongoing on the railway line between Dunblane and Aberdeen in relation to phase 4 of the electrification project and at which locations is this taking place?

3, Can Network Rail confirm if any specific bridges, level crossings or tunnels on the railway line between Dunblane and Aberdeen will be closed, taken down or altered between now and 2029?

4, How is the pause of the Aberdeen to Central Belt Improvement Project in the 2024-25 Scottish Budget impacting the Dunblane-Aberdeen rail electrification project?

5, What is now the expected cost of the Aberdeen to Central Belt line electrification project?

Response

For point 1 of your request,

No completion date has been set for the electrification of the Railway from Dunblane to Aberdeen.

For point 2 of your request,

Plans for the decarbonisation of the routes from Aberdeen to the Central belt are currently in design development. The location of worksites will be determined by Network Rail.

For point 3 of your request,

Transport Scotland does not hold the information that you have requested, as these are operational matters for Network Rail as the authority responsible for rail infrastructure in Scotland.
