Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Information requested
Request for Information 1: The number of deaths Social Security Scotland have been made aware of in the last three years of clients who were receiving Adult Disability Payment (2022, 2023 and 2024 so far).
Request for Information 2: The number of ADP applicants who died before receiving a benefit due in 2024 but were considered eligible for the ADP.

The figures in the table below include new applicants and those whose cases were transferred from the Department for Work and Pensions.

Request for information 2:
There have been 67 Adult Disability Payment applicants who have died in 2024 (up to and including 30 August) prior to the approval of their application.
It should be noted that this data is drawn from management information, which has not been quality assured to the same level as that in our Official Statistics publication. As such, these figures should be interpreted with caution.
While we cannot comment on individual cases, we are committed to giving people timely decisions, while allowing sufficient time to ensure the correct information is in place to get decisions right the first time.
