Information requested

Please provide the following details regarding undergraduate medicine degree admissions at Scottish universities:

  1. Number of students from public or state-owned schools
  2. Total number of available seats
  3. Number of international students admitted
  4. Number of students from independent schools
  5. Number of students from non-denominational and denominational schools
  6. Number of students from Gaelic medium education

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

The Scottish funding Council (SFC) publish University intake targets each year for medicine. The latest, covering 2024-25, is available from the SFC website: University Intake Targets for Medicine 2024-25 - Scottish Funding Council (sfc.ac.uk)

HESA publish the following table on total number of enrolments, covering all years of study, on Medicine courses at Scottish providers (select CAH Level 3 Science Subjects) - Table 49 - HE student enrolments by HE provider and subject of study 2014/15 to 2022/23 | HESA

In addition, the following data is available from SG Secondary Analysis looking at entrants to ‘Pre Clinical’ medicine for 2022-23, the latest HESA data available. These numbers will not match the SFC’s intake targets / funded places exactly due to a number of small differences in definition including what courses are eligible, level of course and domicile:
