Information requested
1. Policies for time off for volunteering including to donate blood or work with charities.
2. Guidelines/policy surrounding compassionate leave including the number of days allowed.
3. Maternity and paternity leave policies.
4. Provisions for career breaks.
5. Any policy on the buying and selling of annual leave.
Response
I enclose a copy of most of the information you requested.
I have attached copies of the following policies which apply to Scottish Government employees:
- Volunteering;
- Bereavement;
- Maternity Leave, and Paternity Leave; and
- Career Break
Donating blood does not fall within the Volunteering Policy. Appointments to donate blood are expected to be made outside normal working hours where possible, or as early/late in the working day as possible. Where such appointments cannot be made, and staff are absent from work to donate blood, a time credit equal to the duration of the appointment plus travel can be claimed. The Scottish Government do not have a policy for the buying and selling of annual leave therefore this is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
