Information requested
How complete is the R100 broadband project, i.e. how many homes are connected and how many homes are not connected? Could you supply what areas these homes are in?
Response
The Reaching 100% (R100) programme comprises three strands of activity – the £600 million+ R100 contracts (North, Central and South), the R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (SBVS) and commercial coverage.
All premises in Scotland can now access a superfast broadband connection, whether through traditional fixed networks or newer technologies, such as low earth orbit (LEO) satellite. The R100 contracts continue to deliver full fibre connections across Scotland, while the R100 SBVS remains available to eligible premises.
112,939 premises (homes and businesses) in total are currently expected to be connected through the R100 contracts. As at 30 August 2024, the number of premises connected through the R100 contracts was 46,383. This is broken down by Scottish Local Authority in Annex A. A further 14,012 connections have been connected as a result of overspill – non-contractual connections delivered outwith the scope of R100 contract build.
Additionally, as at 17 September 2024, the total number of connections delivered through the R100 SBVS is 4,555. This is broken down by Scottish Local Authority in Annex B.
The R100 SBVS is available for those premises not expected to benefit from R100 contract or commercial build, offering a voucher worth up to £5,000 with which to secure, as a minimum, a superfast broadband connection. As a demand-led scheme, it is not possible to provide the number of properties still to be connected through utilisation of vouchers.
Latest coverage figures can be found on the Scotland Superfast website at Data insights | Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband.
