Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Information requested
With regards to this decision from the Scottish Information Commissioner - https://www.foi.scot/sites/default/files/2024-09/Decision191-2024.pdf - please can you tell me:
A - the name of the scheme or schemes those impacted by the October 2023 change are members of.
B - how many pension scheme members were impacted by the October 2023 change (ie how many members had their contribution levels changed)?
C - of those impacted, how many are female and how many are male?
D - was it only junior doctors that were impacted by the changes or did other part-time employees see their contribution levels change as well?
E - if the answer to D is that other employees were affected, please state 1. how many and 2. how that number breaks down by male/female?
Response
A - All members were active members of the NHS Pension Scheme (Scotland) 2015. Some members were also transition members of the National Health Service Superannuation Scheme (Scotland) (1995 Section) or the National Health Service Superannuation Scheme (Scotland) (2008 Section).
B - All active members were impacted by the October 2023 change and had their contribution levels changed. At 31 March 2024 there were 215,443 active members.
C - Of the 215,443 active members at 31 March 2024, 171,689 were female and 43,754 were male.
D - All members’ contribution levels changed from 1 October 2023. Including all part-time NHS staff who were active members of the scheme.
E - All members were affected. Please see answers to questions to B and C above.
