Information requested
The number of journeys in Scotland using ITSO based cards or ITSO mobile application in the last year?
This should be broken down by mode of travel – bus, tram or train and include the ITSO usage as a % of all travel.
Response
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have most of the information you have requested.
The data for the number of journeys using ITSO based cards or ITSO mobile application that we own for non rail travel is based on the National Concessionary Travel Schemes (NCTS) within Scotland. This data is the number of journeys made using the National Entitlement Card to gain free travel by bus or ferry by NCTS members.
In the 12 month period, 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024, there were 183,357,099 journeys made by bus, and 15,074 journeys made on ferries by cardholders within the NCTS.
Scotrail figures for 2023/24 train journeys are that 3.5 million journeys were made using an ITSO based card or ITSO mobile application.
We do not own additional data for other journeys in order to provide a full answer. You may wish to contact operators direct, who may be able to help you further. Details of operators can be found on the smarttravel.scot website but please note this is not an exhaustive list of operators.
