2. An explanation of the general process for a health board member leaving
The circumstances for a board member leaving a board will vary, factors might include changing board requirements or the personal situation of a board member. However, generally speaking board members are appointed for a term of up to four years with a specified end date. If they leave prior to the end date they will notify the board that they wish to resign, and the board will notify the Public Appointments Team. The Public Appointments Team provide regular updates to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care regarding members who are stepping down.
3. An explanation of the general process for a new health board member being appointed.
Appointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner and managed in accordance with the Code of Practice for Ministerial Appointments by the Public Appointments Team on behalf of Scottish Ministers. The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care makes the majority of health board appointments, including all territorial health boards, and Health Ministers make appointments to a small number of specialist health boards.
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested in Points 1c, d and f – Profession, relevant qualifications and previous occupation of appointed member – as we do not collect this information.
However, you can find some information on appointed members’ experience in news releases published on the public appointments website at Public appointments: news releases - gov.scot (www.gov.scot)
