Transport Scotland - Diversion of A75 traffic statement by Amey South West: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004

Information requested

All information held by Transport Scotland that supports the closure of the A75 during roadworks and the diversion of trunk road traffic onto local roads with particular reference to the acceptance of the following statement by Amey South West.

The safety of our workforce, the site, and the travelling public is of utmost importance when planning road maintenance. A convoy system cannot be implemented during Phase Two of these works due to available road widths, which fall below the legal requirements to ensure the safety of road users and road workers. The absolute minimum width required for convoy working is 7.3 metres as per Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations.

You stated, I have directed this to you rather than Amey as the power to close the A75 is made under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 signed on behalf of Scottish Ministers.

On 4 November you clarified the date range for your request "to the period of the tendering/contract preparation and period of the current SW trunk road contract held by Amey"
