Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills meetings regarding Higher History exams: FOI release

Information requested

1. Whether any meetings were held between Jenny Gilruth MSP and SQA Chief Executive Fiona Robertson before or prior to the recent Education Committee session regarding Higher History.

2. For any such meetings, I request:

• The date and location of the meeting.
• A list of attendees.
• Copies of minutes, notes, or any other records taken.

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

I can confirm that a meeting took place between the Cabinet Secretary and Fiona Robertson to discuss the Education, Children and Young People Committee evidence session on Higher History immediately before the Committee session on 4 December. This took place at the Scottish Parliament. A note of the meeting, including a list of attendees is attached.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because exemptions under the following sections of FOISA applies to that information: 38(1)(b) (personal information).

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to some of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, i.e. names and contact details, and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018.

This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
