Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Correspondence between the Scottish Government and the SPFL from 1 January 2022 that include reference to restrictions on the sale of alcohol in football grounds and, separately, also those documents that include reference to Aberdeen FC.

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested. The correspondence is from the SPFL relating to Aberdeen Football Club. These are invitations to the Viaplay League Cup Semi-Final and Cup Final in 2023. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exemption( under section 38(1)(b) - personal information of FOISA applies to that information. This exemption prevents the release of personal information for people under the grade of senior civil servant.

The Scottish Government does not have any correspondence with the SPFL in relation to the sale of alcohol at football grounds. Ministers have said that they would be content to look at proposals, but we haven't received any proposal from the SPFL. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
