Free bikes provided to children since May 2021: FOI release

Information requested

  1. Please provide the number of free bikes which have been provided by the Scottish Government to children since May 2021.
  2. Please provide details of bikes distributed to date by local authority.
  3. Please provide details of when the pilot scheme will end, and when there will be a Scotland wide rollout of the policy.
  4. Please provide details of the costs of any pilot/rollout of this policy to date.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The reasons why we don't have the information are set out below.

  2. Information not held - The Scottish Government does not record numbers of free bikes distributed per local authority
  3. The formal pilot programme ended in August 2022. A wider rollout of the programme will commence in Financial Year 23-24
  4. The total cost of the pilot programme to date is £2,783,189.90
