You asked several questions in relation to The Queen’s funeral:
1. All correspondence between JP Marks, Douglas Ross, Nicola Sturgeon and other Scottish Government officials regarding invites to the Queen’s funeral in September.
2. All correspondence between Scottish Government officials and the Lord Chamberlain’s offices regarding invites to the Queen’s funeral in September.
3. How many invites was Nicola Sturgeon given for the Queen’s funeral and did she hand them out to anyone; if so, who received invites?
Response
In relation to parts 1 and 2 of your request we are able to provide some of the information you have requested. However, while our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the other information you have requested because FOISA exemptions 38(1) (b) (personal information), 30(c) (substantial prejudice to the effective conduct of public affairs) and 41 (a) (communications with the Royal Household etc.) apply to that information. The reasons why these exemptions apply are explained in the Annex to this letter.
In relation to part 3 of your request it may be helpful if I explain that the Scottish Government was previously invited to nominate to the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, via the Cabinet Office, representatives from 40 Scottish public bodies that had an association with Her Majesty or were active in areas in which Her Majesty had an interest. This was handled by Scottish Government officials. The First Minister had no role in contributing to or approving the list that was submitted.
