£250 million pledge for drug prevention and rehabilitation: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

In January 2021 the First Minister announced a pledge of £250 million towards drug prevention and rehabilitation in the next five years. Of that money,

Nicola Sturgeon said:

“This funding – a total of £250m over the next Parliament – will support further investment in a range of community-based interventions, including primary prevention and an expansion of residential rehabilitation”.

It was understood that the £250 million would be invested at a rate of £50 million per year. On that basis, please provide the following:

  1. Documented and recorded confirmation that since the FM’s pledge, £50 million per year has been invested into drug prevention and rehabilitation so far.

Please include a breakdown of exactly how the money has been allocated and where it has been invested so far. Ideally this would be in the form a document that shows how much has been spent by the Scottish Government and which services received the pockets of money.
  2. A documented record of how the remaining amount of the £250 million has been allocated for the remaining years in the five-year period.

Specifically, how the remaining amount is, at this moment, planned to be spent and allocated.
